Could you folks tell me if you are required to fill time sheets on a
daily basis which tracks/measures the number of hours you spend in a
particular activity in a day?
The company I work for has multiple accounts with multiple clients that
are billed for our time directly. We have to keep up-to-date "time
slips" for *at least* every hour, if not in 10-15 minute sections.
Obviously, this is related to what client's jobs you're working on. I
only work (currently, at least) on one client's work. I update my time
slips at least every 2 hours, and whenever I change work on a major
section, or begin researching rather than writing, or go back to
editing, etc. Others in the office work on projects for multiple clients
every day; they keep very detailed records so the correct client can be
billed, and if there is ever a question, the slips can show exactly what
the person was working on.
It might curtail creativity, but I honestly don't feel like I'm being
watched over as far as keeping records (of course, I'm smart enough to
do it without being reminded/asked), and I can see the logic in the
billing process.
