Thanks for your help, folks. The answer, as it turns out, was a simple one:
if you add color to the links in your FrameMaker docs so that they will be
easy to find when you convert to PDF, simply ensure that you select "color"
in the printer dialog. I hadn't thought of this because I am so accustomed
to printing in gray-scale (HP 5si), and because it was necessary for the
customer to see the color only on the screen.
