It's natural, I suppose, for people in a field to want to know the field
is
a respected one and that those in it know what they are doing.
However, I've seen the word "professional" most often used as "he's just
not
professional," or "I'm more professional than her/him" or (for the
sensitive self-doubters among us) "I didn't perform as well as
her/him in this situation. Ergo, I'm not professional."
I guess certification is an attempt to define exactly what it means
to be professional.
Don't really like that word professional.
Just to cover all the bases, however, I've added the word "professional"
to
my signature below :-).
