>>>Does anyone out there have a suggestion? Have any particular methods
proven successful? How does your company/organization determine tech
writers' productivity?
Counting words or pages, then applying that number to a formula, is not a
good idea. It reduces writing to the mere assembly of letters on a page. It
is like buying an Old Master Painting or a great Jazz song by the number of
strokes, colors or notes. Writers, write and often, there are days where a
writer just can't put the words together. My suggestion is to find another
way.
I just finished a document for 3Com and I had a schedule and deadline. I
worked towards completion on time, not so many words per day. As long as a
writer can meet a deadline, that should be enough. Assuming their work is
good.
