It is always easier to whine and complain about a problem than
confront it and solve it.
Example - which is easier:
1) Tom the SME is mean or lies to you. You run to your manager and
complain about Tom. Then, you sit in your cubicle for the next six
weeks waiting for your boss to solve the problem. You accomplish
nothing, but you have a fantastic excuse for why you could not do your
job.
2) You deal with Tom and get the job done.
Some people live in a sea of excuses. As long as they have a well
constructed excuse for NOT working, they feel okay. Difficult
programmers and engineers are hands down the most ideal excuse for NOT
working.
Respect is a funny thing. In my experience, respect is like marijuana
plant. You have to water it regularly and slowly over time it grows.
If you treat it well and nourish it with honestly, integrity, and hard
work, one day you can take off a bud and get high.
You, my friend, obviously care enough to get the job done. <DING> You
get a cookie and may progress to the next level of consciousness. :-)
