"The Media Lab" (published late '80s) by Nicholas Negroponte
describes research at the Media Lab in which people
proofreading on standard PC monitors made 40% more errors
than on hard copy. On monitors using anti-aliasing
technology developed by the Media Lab, the error rate fell
to near-hard-copy levels. The particular anti-aliasing
technology has never been implemented in commercial
monitors.
