I didn't originally jump in here, because I didn't understand the requirement
properly. I thought the question was document numbering with the version, not
document version management. However, if we are talking in the realm of Source
Safe, I would like to mention that perhaps a program like Revision Master would
do the trick. It is similar to Source Safe, but smaller and less expensive.
Worth looking at. I don't recall their website address off the top of my
head, but could lay my hands on it if required.
