This is great! Of course, you have to gauge the interviewer and thier
tolerance for light answers like this. I was interviewing a technical
writer to join my team and I asked the interviewee a question along the
following lines:
"What would you do if it it was 3:00, you had a deadline at 3:30, and
you had just added some new functions to the reference section and you
couldn't verify their accuracy because the developer responsible had
gone home. What would you do within that half hour to ensure the the
document was accurate?"
The interviewee gave me a wry smile and casually responded, "well, being
a big believer in the power of positive thought, I'd visualize success."
I asked him to clarify that for me and he said he'd just visualize
himself recording the right information in the document and go on that.
It's not that I have no sense of humor but I wasn't sure if he was
trying to be funny and break the ice or if he just wasn't quick enough
to think up an answer. He didn't get the job.
