Subject:How many screen shots to use? From:"Geoff Hart (by way of \"Eric J. Ray\" <ejray -at- raycomm -dot- com>)" <ght -at- MTL -dot- FERIC -dot- CA> Date:Fri, 22 Jan 1999 08:12:53 -0700
Sometimes deciding how many screenshots to use is more a matter of
art than science. One good rule of thumb is that any time you need to
describe a position (e.g., three fields down from the top-right
corner) or an image (e.g., the button with the image that looks sort
of like confetti, or maybe nuclear fallout, or perhaps just a bad
case of dandruff), you probably want a graphic rather than words.
One neat trick that lets you avoid multiple, near-identical
screenshots is to use a single screenshot, but with a series of
numbered "callouts" to the right of the picture. Thus:
1. Click in this field [arrow points to field]
2. Enter .....
3. Click in this next field [arrow points to field]
etc.
