Thank you so much to Heather Ross, Heidi Waterhouse,
Carene Kulis, Matthew Horn, Joanne Tait, Anne
Halsey, Melissa Bodeau, Sherry Yearty, Pat Anderson,
Lesley Roth, Darren Barefoot, Rowena Hart, and Elna
Tymes for the replies!

Some of the reasons I already knew from serving
an internship, myself, less than 5 years ago, but
just couldn't figure out how to say. Here's what I
pulled together from the responses:

An intern is someone:
· with fresh ideas and new perspectives on dealing
with problems
· who is more than willing to do things "our way,"
due to not having worked as a writer for other
companies
· who has received formal education in the concepts
of audience analysis, online help design, page
layout, and so on
· who enthusiastically gives 110% because it's not
only a job, but a grade
· who hasn't seen our product before, and therefore
can offer a fresh eye
· who is a "free resource," and can handle those
nagging details we never seem to have time for
· who could turn into not only an employee, but an
employee who
· knows how our organization/company works
· will be productive faster at less cost due to
already having been trained
· will be loyal to the company that gave the "big
break"
· we know we enjoy working with

Okay, so I've got to work with a little bit of the
wording (avoiding gender isn't always easy!), but you
get the gist. Thanks again!
