My company designates an annual training allowance, which allows me to
choose (with approval) the events I think will be most helpful.
(Unfortunately, the allowance is only $1000. This seems pretty reasonable
until you look at the prices. The last two years I blew the whole wad on
the WinHelp conference--which was affordable only because I happen to live
in the same city. I just got a brochure for a 3-day conference/seminar in
Florida--looked great, but the nearly $2000 price tag floored me. Needless
to say, I do a lot of self-teaching, which works for me, and save the
allowance for more general events.)
