there's
a new product out that manages FrameMaker files down to the paragraph
level,
and other products such as Word at the file level. It's called
Canterbury from Chrystal Software,
I've looked into this product and it looks very promising for larger
organizations. Systems such as these are very expensive, however. Be
prepared to pay something on the order of $100,000.00 for the Canterbury
solution which is custom tailored for the organization. This being a
small startup company, we certainly can't afford such a solution and
rely instead on check in/check out document management systems such as
Star Team. If a company could bring a more generic, out of the box
solution to market between the price points of Star Team and Canterbury
they may do a good business with smaller and medium sized companies.
