Subject:Maker 5.5 HTML Export vs QuadraLay From:Chris Despopoulos <cud -at- ARRAKIS -dot- ES> Date:Sun, 11 Apr 1999 17:35:59 +0200
I hope I have not abused the "Search The Archives"
principal. I looked at topic summaries, and I was daunted
by the incredible list of archives and the fact that the
Search Archives option just returned an error. So if this
is in the archives, please excuse me.
The question is:
Everybody seems to rave over Quadralay, and to disparage
Maker HTML Out. Why? Has anybody really exercised the
latest (based on HoToMaLe) Maker HTML Out, and can compare
it to Quadralay? Looking over the Q-Lay user manual, I
don't really see anything Maker cannot do (for HTML)...
Except maybe the Q-Lay macros are more robust. But even
that is hard for me to imagine, since you can map any Maker
style to any markup you want when using Maker HTML Out.
I stopped downloading an eval version of Q-Lay at hour 2,
with 75% left to go. (Online software distribution still
has a little room for improvement.) But I can't give it a
test run to see for myself. Also, the price is just a
little discouraging.
I'm asking because I'm looking at a job where the client
might want to use Q-Lay, might not. I really want to
provide the best answer, not just my opinion, nor just the
current winner of a popularity contest.
Can anybody help? Should this turn into a topic summary?
