Subject:Need creative input From:Melissa Morgan <mmorgan -at- INTREPID -dot- CDG-HARGRAY -dot- COM> Date:Mon, 17 May 1999 13:37:52 -0500
A friend of mine asked me to post this to the list
to get some creative input. In the interest of not
bogging down the list with this topic, please reply
off-list to mmorgan -at- intrepid -dot- cdg-hargray -dot- com, and I will
forward the comments to her. Thanks in advance
for your advice! I know she will greatly
appreciate any suggestions.
Here's the rub:
My friend is a technical writer with 3 years experience
in software documentation. Her husband will soon be
working as a truck driver (good money, high demand).
She was wondering if there might be some way for
her to travel with him, and do technical writing on the
road. She's been looking at some high-end laptops,
and ways to access the internet through the on-board
satellite link devices that are standard in many new
rigs. Most truck stops have fax machines and some
have modem jacks.
Questions:
What sort of writing jobs might work best with this setup?
What industries are more friendly to telecommuting?
How difficult might it be to find a job that will not require
many on-site hours?
If nothing else, might she be able to just format documents
or do indexing?
Any other considerations?
