Product Documentation Lead
This position is for a senior tech writer whose primary responsibility will
be to own and maintain our system administrator/developer documentation set.
Candidates for this positions should possess knowledge of relational
databases, client/server applications and networking basics. Knowledge of
Java scripting and object models is helpful. In addition, this position will
coordinate project teams made up of junior and intermediate writers. The
position will report to the End User Education Lead.
The User Ed team is committed to hiring professionals who are interested in
adding new skills and technologies to their tool set. Our team is
action-oriented; members are expected to have the initiative to make things
happen while maintaining a strong sense of accountability and teamwork.
The ideal documentation lead is self-driven, hard-working, and ready to
learn from other team members. Candidates must be detail-oriented and must
demonstrate a strong commitment to making the e-commerce experience as easy
and understandable as it can be.
Partial job responsibilities:
 Create online documentation for a system administrator and software
developer audience; deliverables include help, user guides, technical notes,
and Web-based learning materials.
 Perform technical and developmental edits on new and existing
online documentation.
 Develop documentation specs for each assigned project.
 Act as project-related resource for writers assigned to project.
 Work with End User Education Manager to ensure that project
deliverables are on schedule.
Experience needed:
 5-7 years experience developing online and print user documentation
for a technical audience. 3 years experience developing technical
documentation and 3+ years in software project management also considered.
 Strong editing skills.
 Internet experience is preferred.
 Demonstrated project coordination/project lead experience.
 Demonstrated experience working as part of inter-departmental
teams.
 Demonstrated experience setting project schedules/priorities.
Degree Needed: At least a BA in one of the following: Tech Comm, English,
Communications, Computer Science/Engineering.
Skills Needed: FrameMaker 5.0 +; Dreamweaver 1.2+; ForeHelp and/or WinHelp;
Adobe Acrobat tools; Knowledge of relational databases, client/server
applications and networking basics; Knowledge of Java scripting and object
models.
Helpful Skills: Macromedia Fireworks; Microsoft Project; Microsoft Visual
Source Safe; Basic HTML tagging; Experience documenting an Internet-based
server application; Familiarity with Sun Solaris and Oracle platforms.
