For me this has always depended on my audience.

In some instances, I've known my audience would get a kick out of
inventive names like the ones mention earlier on this list.

In a few cases, the audience would not only be unappreciative, they
would find it downright unprofessional. I try to make up the blandest,
unoffensive information. I will even use data that is obviously fake.
i.e. 123 Main St. Anywhere, USA, 555-1234.

For one application I decided that it would be necessary to make up a
name based on their function as it relates to the software. i.e. Joe
Shipper, Sally Supervisor, Rhonda Receiving. A little lame, but it
helped clarify just who was supposed to be using which part of the
application.

I've never used my own name and avoid using names of people I've known.
