We use VSS where I work, and it has been really good. I have not had any
problems at all. It is very expensive though, and as an alternative, I would
highly recommend Revision Master, which I personally was quite impressed with.
Maybe somebody has their website address handy (they let you download a
working version), if not - let me know and I'll dig it up.
