Subject:Word TOC and Index Compile taking hours From:"Moore, Tracey" <TMoore -at- PARKERVISION -dot- COM> Date:Mon, 14 Jun 1999 14:27:00 -0400
I'm using Word 97, for a multi-document book. I'm using the same TOC and
Index I've used in the past with no problem. My problem for the last
couple of months is that when I compile the TOC or Index, it literally
takes HOURS! This morning, I compiled a TOC and it took all morning.
Worse yet, it totally ties up the computer so I can't do any work. If I
tried to use another program, it crashes.
I'm wondering if more RAM would help--but how do I convince my employer
to upgrade my computer when I don't know if it will actually help?
I've called Microsoft and they have no explanation for why Word would
take so long. (Incidentally, I've used this same TOC/Index in the past
and it took only minutes to compile.)
The Word docs are graphic intensive. The computer specs:
200 pentium, 3 gig hard drive, 64mg RAM, Windows 95
