TECH/COMM99 Update
July 10-14, 1999 - Washington, DC
********************************************************
TECH/COMM99 is just a few weeks away! If you haven't
registered yet, we encourage you to sign up now. Join your
colleagues and friends from 34 states and 6 countries (as of
today) at this unique conference designed to meet the needs
of experienced technical communicators.
The conference promises to be an exciting four days,
starting with the keynote session and welcome party on
Sunday. The evening is a great way to meet informally with
conference attendees and speakers.
The conference keynoter is TIM O'REILLY, president and CEO
of O'Reilly & Associates, the premier publisher of in-depth
books for computer professionals. Tim got his start as a
technical writer, and he brings that perspective to his talk
on "The New Age of Infoware: How the Web Is Changing
Computer Applications."
THE ULTIMATE CHOCOLATE PARTY immediately follows the keynote
session, and it includes not only a selection of sumptuous
chocolate desserts but also games and MENTAL CALISTHENICS
brought to you by HodgePodge. If you've attended a SOLUTIONS
clinic, you know what to expect. If you haven't, you're in
for a treat. Conference sessions start Monday morning and
continue through Wednesday morning. Be sure to check the
conference website for ADDITIONAL SESSIONS that aren't in
the brochure.
Remember to SUBMIT QUESTIONS to the Expert Panels and
WEBSITES TO BE CRITIQUED by Aaron Marcus. Forms are
available on the conference website at www.techcomm99.com.
You don't have to attend the conference or the panel
sessions to submit questions, and the answers will be posted
on the conference website and available to all.
ADDITIONAL DETAILS ABOUT PRE-CONFERENCE SEMINARS are
available on the conference website. You must register for
these seminars in advance, and you may attend the seminars
without also attending the conference. Space remains, but
the seminars are filling fast.
We've got a wide range of EXHIBITORS coming to the
conference. Check the conference website for a current list.
Click on the exhibitor logos for more information about the
companies. Also, the winners of STC's INTERNATIONAL
TECHNICAL PUBLICATIONS COMPETITON will be on display at the
conference on Monday and Tuesday.
If you're a member of STC (Society for Technical
Communication), you qualify for a $50 DISCOUNT on your
conference registration. If you're not a member of STC, we
encourage you to join (stc -at- stc-va -dot- org or 703-522-4114).
You'll benefit immediately, since your $50 TECH/COMM99
discount is equal to about half the STC membership fee!
HOTEL ROOMS at the Crystal Gateway Marriott are still
available, but don't delay in making your reservations. Call
703-920-3230 or 800-228-9290 and ask for the TECH/COMM99
Conference rate. We've seen really low AIRFARES to
Washington recently. If you need reservations, check http://www.southwest.com/hotfares and http://previewtravel.m0.net/m/s.asp?H145995352X121516.
We're looking forward to seeing you in Washington, DC in
