I'll second this. We built a townhouse on Saint Paul's Grand Avenue in
December 1996. Given the rapid appreciation, we couldn't afford it now. One
of the nicest things about the Twin Cities has been that we haven't had the
"boom and bust" cycles that other regions of the U.S. experience. That seems
to be changing, and the housing market is on the verge of derailment.
Even worse, the tech writing market here seems to be shifting. My wife and I
have been self-employed since 1979 and we've never had to actively look for
contracts--they've always managed to find us. Now we're looking and they
seem to be evading us, going to folks with significantly less experience who
are willing to work for less.
