Hi Janet!
The problem you are experiencing is common. The linotronic is a very high
end image setter capable of producting fonts at resolutions like the one you
mention below. Your HP prints at 600 dpi. The spacing you see is a result of
sending a document with over 3000 dpi to a printer that is 600 dpi.
(Basically, there are more dots than the smaller printer knows what to do
with, and the HP dots are much bigger.) PostScript is supposed to handle
this, but HP is not known for their ability to handle PostScript. (In fact,
they're pretty bad at it.)
One thing you can do is make another print file with the Linotronic driver,
but set the dpi much lower (like 800 or so). This should preserve your page
layout yet cut down on the font problems. If you can only generate your
files at 3368 dpi, you will probably continue to have a spacing problem.
