TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
The Online Communicators Network is an organization for professionals committed to creating effective online information systems. Based in Minneapolis, the OCN has been meeting monthly since April 1995. We hold our meetings at the University of Minnesota, with topics that include help system planning and design, XML, JavaHelp, usability techniques, HTML Help, and updates on help authoring tools. Speakers include national leaders in the online communications field, as well as technical communicators from corporations throughout Minnesota. In the past, our speakers have included Joe Welinske, Saul Carliner, Kathy Wolfskill, and Ben Weisner. Members of OCN not only receive timely information on an ongoing basis, they also have access to speaker materials on a members-only web site, and discounts to select seminars, conferences and products.
We are considering making our meetings accessible to the general public via video conferencing technology. This would necessitate that those interested:
a) become a member of OCN and
b) have the hardware/software and the connectivity that would support video conferencing at your organization
