TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
Following a recent vacation in Quebec, I have been researching and
thinking about the possibility of relocating to Montreal. I hope that
some people on this list may be willing to share their wisdom and
experience.
I have traded email messages with some people on the list about this,
and I thank each person for taking time to respond. Apparently, there
are good tech writing jobs in Quebec and an American can come there to
work as a technical writer.
It would be nice to hear about the practical challenges, benefits, and
drawbacks of coming to Montreal as an American tech writer. Does anyone
have a clear idea of the governmental hoops and obstacles? What are the
pros and cons of living and working there? Any other information is also
welcome.
Also, I would be thrilled to learn of any job openings or reliable
recruiters that I could contact. I am still in the pondering stage, so
any help or advice people might want to offer would be useful (and
appreciated).
I am subscribed to techwr-l from work, and I would appreciate any
responses being sent to my home email address: s -dot- ikohn -at- worldnet -dot- att -dot- net -dot-
If there is interest, I would be happy to post a summary on the list.
