Web content specialist
Description
The Web content specialist (CS) ensures that appropriate business and
technical information posted to the Seagate IT intranet pages is of high
quality, is user-friendly and is effective in conveying its content. Work
closely with IT Business Systems and Web groups to develop content and
ensure conformity to all applicable Web standards. Evaluate the IT Web
site’s usability and make design recommendations to improve the user’s
experience. Acts as usability evangelist for the team, developing and
instructing in a common frame of reference for usability that can applied
to all our projects.
Responsibilities
Liaise with IT Web developers to develop consistent look and feel
Develop internal editorial style guides to help drafters make existing
content Web-ready.
Ensure that IT Business Systems Group’s voice and editorial standards
are carried consistently throughout Web content
Edit documents on the site as necessary
Acquire content approval prior to posting content
Communicate the possibilities and limitations of the Web as a medium to
the IT Business Systems Group
Specify and implement a Web content management system
Develop simple, easy-to-apply usability testing systems that can be part
of the team’s daily operations
Implement a small lab for testing the site and other related projects
using a variety of methods including paper prototyping, talk-through
analysis, and heuristic evaluation.
Make recommendations based on the results of these tests to develop a
streamlined and effective interface for the site
Keep abreast of usability efforts and studies by the likes of Jarrod
Spool and Jakob Nielsen
Required skills
BS, ideally in communications or journalism with business and business
computer technology coursework. Equivalent experience may substitute for
educational requirement.
2-3 years experience in high tech writing, editing, and developing
interactive media content
Ability to quickly comprehend business requirements and make appropriate,
pragmatic decisions
Self-motivated, self-directed, fast learner, hard worker
Strong presentation skills
Desired skills
Experience working on major Web sites, especially optimization for both
Netscape Navigator and Microsoft Internet Explorer clients
Experience with Internet projects
Experience with business and systems analysis
