Hello, Bryn.

OK...I wrote three different responses to your
situation and I wasn't happy with any of them, so I'll
be direct.

You are being pushed around and being taken advantage
of. Unfortunately, you are letting them, thereby
making it your fault.

When you were asked to make an appearance for a couple
of hours after you were awarded the new position, you
were right to say yes, but wrong to not contact your
new agency first and let them know that it was a major
inconvience, that it was interferring with your
current obligation, and that coming in was for their
benefit, not yours. You already had the job.

If they couldn't understand that you weren't available
prior to their start date because you had prior
committments to your prior contract and you would
extend that same consideration to them at the end of
their contract, then you have bigger problems with the
new contract than a few extra hours work.

At that point, they are made to understand that you
have something to finish before starting the contract,
so thanks, and you will see them on Monday.

Period.

Remember that one of the reasons you are a contractor
is control of your working conditions.

BTW, in two weeks, I'm just starting my 7th contract,
so know where you're coming from.
