I'm offering a Help development seminar on the issues
around context-sensitivity. This seminar is an opportunity
to prepare the people who develop Help systems on your
product teams to take on more technical challenges.

Here's the details:

"Conversations with an Application: Implementing and Managing Help
System Development"

Presenter: Nancy Hickman,
author of Building Windows 95 Help, M&T (IDG) Books

Dates & Locations:

San Francisco --- August 20

Developing a Help system and application that fits well together can be
a challenge. Often, at the very end of the development cycle, a Help
developer discovers the application and Help do not communicate with
each other completely, and these problems seriously impact the
developer's original design and intention, not to mention schedule
plans. Additional problems can arise from coping with different
coding teams and environments, and you discover the way that
your development team has always coded is not the way another
team works.

In this seminar, we'll discuss technical requirements for various Help
projects, including WinHelp 4 and HTML Help. We'll also discuss how new
web-based Help system technologies can affect your current and future
projects. The information you'll gain from this seminar will make your
development cycles more managable and predictable and your
designs insightful.

Key Topics:
Scoping project requirements
Analyzing the requirements for context sensitive Help
Efficient Help system planning for the entire project team
Adding Help support in an application
Creating builds and installations
Understanding the impact of new HTML-based systems
Mixing different versions of Windows and web Help systems

Computers and break refreshments will be provided.

Fee: $550

Attendees must register before the seminar to ensure that they have
equipment and materials. For more information or to
register call 913-491-9671 or email the instructor at nhickman -at- gvi -dot- net -dot-
