Laura,
You can easily create a small animated gif89a, without using java or
javascript. There are a number of freeware products, like Gif
Builder, that will produce an animation from a series of images. The
process is pretty simple.
You need to make the artwork -- a series of pictures, each one
slightly modified from the prior one. This is just like those little
flip cartoon books. Depending on how much action you have going on
and how smooth you want it to look, figure on making 15 to 30 such
frames. The more frames, the larger the file size, so try to keep it
fairly simple.
