Question to all listserv members:

There's an old TW saying that: "A good manual should be so simple and straight forward that they (management) will wonder what took you so long." One attribute of such documentation is a minimum number of pages.

Now (as we all know) good technical documentation takes time (much more than does poor documentation).

So if good technical communication takes time and has a minimum number of pages, why are the most popular estimating techniques based upon pages-per-day "rules-of-thumb"?

All responses appreciated.
