The latest salary survey is now available from the STC website. The figures
given are interesting, but as with many statistical type reports, cross
referencing the various categories is impossible. It would be interesting for
example to be able to know what the median experience for an area is as well as
the median salary. Also it would be nice to know what the median salary is for
both a specific experience range, age range, and education level (for example).
Do other more versatile sources of salary information exist? The STC survey is a
great start, but it would be interesting to see other breakdowns of the data.
Does the STC have plans to survey outside their membership? The one drawback
that seems apparent in the survey is it's small (Canadian) sample size. The
other questionable data seems to be the 90% figures. Are these really realistic
or do they reflect contractors/freelancers claiming full employment based on
temporary assignments? This would make the numbers questionable as the claimed
salaries could very well be before taxes, insurance, and other costs. The survey
makes no distinction between types of employment so it is impossible to draw a
definite conclusion
