TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
I believe the PDFWriter function generates PDF
files based on the WMF screen image of your file,
and is subsequently a less controllable product.
Distiller, on the other hand, uses a Postscript
version of your file, and allows finer control
over the resulting PDF file (resolution, sampling,
font embedding etc.).

Subject: Distiller vs. PDFwriter
Hello all,
Excuse the dumb question, but what is the
advantage of using Distiller over
PDFwriter to create .PDF files?
Does using Distiller result in smaller .PDF files?
Is this the main
advantage?
Thanks,
Keith
