My understanding of a famous technical writer is someone who describes the
processes of a given technology, not necessarily scientific processes....
Do you differentiate technical and scientific processes? Should we/could we
separate them?
BTW, Rachel Carson work remains an important contribution to
humanity....Don't misunderstand me!

Let's not forget Rachel Carson. Though trained as a biologist, she worked
as
a technical editor/writer while she was writing the books that changed the
world's view on ecology and the environment. She definitely gets one of my
votes, as well as the ones I mentioned earlier.
