TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
We're excited to announce the new TECHWR-L Employment
Central feature, which we added to the TECHWR-L site
over the weekend. Using this feature, you can
* Add technical communication related job postings
* Search or browse job postings
* Add your personal profile
* Search or browse personal profiles
We're thrilled with the participation so far!
Already today, 18 new job listings have been added to
the database, and the listing of personal profiles
includes nearly 30 entries. And, heck, I've already
been contacted about a job because of having included
my profile in the database <g>....
We added this new feature based partly on the
success of the Contractor's database. Not only
have nearly 700 people entered information into
this database, but we've also heard from a number
of you that you have been contacted by companies
about contracting opportunities. Both the usage
and feedback indicated to us that perhaps a more
complete, powerful, and flexible database would be
useful.
With the addition of the Employment Central feature,
we plan to remove the Contractor's Database on
May 1 because the new database covers contracting
jobs and profiles, uses more capable technologies
(SQL and PHP, rather than Perl scripts and a flat
file), provides a more intuitive interface, and
offers better reliability. (Those of you who entered
your profile into the Contractor's Database should
have received an email over the weekend about the
change. Please contact me if you would like additional
information.)
In the meantime, we're hanging close to the computers
to answer questions and fix bugs as quickly as possible.
We've found and fixed several bugs this morning, so if
you've already visited and encountered an error, please
try again!
As always, we welcome your feedback--especially if
you encounter errors or problems with this new feature.
