I worked for a titanic instrumentation company in Texas once myself, and we had this rough rule:
2 pages a day writing, 4 pages a day editing (start to finish of project).
It's always worked for me. And, when my dad did an enormous project for the agriculture department, he asked if I knew a way to estimate time per page. I told him the above formula and it turned out very accurate for his big, multi-writer project, even though the content had to do with soil conservation rather than electronics or software.
