TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
I missed the beginning of this thread -- but, having been a featured
speaker at various technical conferences, I have to say that I can't even
imagine PAYING them to "let" me speak.
At the conferences in which I participated, each attendee received both a
fat binder comprised of written presentations from each of the speakers,
and a diskette containing any programs/utilities involved with their
presentation.
Do you have any idea how long it took me to perfect my utilities and
document them to ensure that they would work for others? Or to provide a
professional write-up and submit both in the timeframe and media required?
I was thrilled to participate, and delighted to be able to share. But pay
them to do so?
NO WAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
