Subject:RE: Dreamweaver to create HTML Help? (Take II) From:jgarison -at- ide -dot- com To:"TECHWR-L" <techwr-l -at- lists -dot- raycomm -dot- com> Date:Fri, 2 Mar 2001 08:34:50 -0500
Let me cut to the last point in Geoff's message:

The one question that hasn't been answered yet (unless it's buried deep in
my inbox and I haven't seen it yet) is how to make the raw HTML
context-sensitive; that is, to integrate it within the application in such a
manner as to let users jump immediately to the help topic for the current
screen. If that can be done without jumping through hoops, I'd feel
perfectly confident in shelving RoboHelp and going to Dreamweaver.

We are doing page-level help for our application, and the way we're doing it
is this: each application page in our application has a help icon. Clicking
the icon runs a script that ascertains the calling page (an .ASP page) and
then calls the associated Help page which has the same name, but an .HTM
extension. It's pretty simple, and not as flexible as we'd like, but in the
future we can develop a lookup table that will allow us some additional
functionality and flexibility.
Your thoughts are welcome!
