TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
There is a sexual bias associated with taking meeting minutes. My assumption is
that, generally, male technical writers are asked to take minutes less often
than female technical writers are asked. Additionally, male writers most likely
do not feel their position is being made analogous to the specifically support
roles that secretaries (who are to this day mostly female) provide, so they
don't see their value to the project being demeaned or misunderstood.
I am taking meeting minutes at this time as well. It reduces the amount of
input I can provide during the development meetings. Therefore, it seems that
my input during these meetings is less valued. I'm doing them to do my part,
and I'm leaving it at that.
