TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
I'm relieved someone brought up this topic because I thought I was being
defensive when asked to do this during a couple developer meetings.
I agree with a few people who preferred to be included in high-level
planning and development meetings, even if requested to take notes. I think
it helps not just to write but also make thoughtful comments or ask critical
questions.
At some regular dept. meetings, it's been suggested that note-taking duties
be rotated.
For the last meeting notes, I was able to experiment w/ an idea for taking
white board diagrams w/ digital photos. It wasn't perfect but workable for
capturing quickly changing plans. If you feel like you're adding something
original to the task, it can be more meaningful.
