The last time I was between jobs, I had a VERY hard time battling
depression.
(I wasn't a sole supporter, but I had no severance and no unemployment
since I escaped a bad job voluntarily.) One thing that helped was meeting
friends for lunch, since that was both companionship and a networking
opportunity. If money is a concern, you can all brown-bag together instead
of going to a restaurant.
Also, are there biotech firms where you live? Many biotech companies use
tech writers and require a medical background. This might be a good match
for you.
Looking back, I wish I had played more (gone to the beach, movies, walks
in the park) while I was looking for work. Pauses in the race of life
don't come often and soon enough I was back working full time. So make
sure you get out and enjoy the spring!
Good luck!
