Joyce, I have combined the individual chapters of a
documents in Word, saved
them each individually to a .prn output file, and then
combined the .prn files
into a single pdf file of 300-350 pages.
Adobe Distiller comes with a script that you can use
to combine multiple files
into a single pdf and I believe that version 4.0 skips
the script and does it
from within Distiller. Check Distiller's online user
help, the instructions on
doing this are well laid out.
