TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
Kathi DeGuzman has <<... been a technical writer for over 10 years. Of
course I have edited my own work during that time. However, I am now
considered the Tech. Editor of my dept. Can anyone recommend a good book to
get a few theories, etc. under my belt.>>
After all those years of reviews, now comes payback time! <g>
What resources you will get the most benefit from depends on what you
perceive as your specific training needs. One thing that I do highly
recommend is that you join copyediting-l
(http://listserv.indiana.edu/scripts/wa.exe?SUBED1=copyediting-l&A=1%20),
which is a resource comparable to techwr-l but for editors. It's a great
place to get answers to specific editing-related questions that might not be
appropriate for techwr-l. It's at least as busy as techwr-l, but you can
filter certain topics (e.g., chat) and that helps.
