I'm pretty much working under the assumption that, as I said, this will be on our own times and budgets. I think that just happens to be the reality of the situation, given that (as you pointed out) this is not a recognized "organization." That would take a few years, and a few successful conferences, to occur.......

If you really want to do this thing, you would probably have a better
turnout if you did it next year. A lot of people can get their employers to
send them to conferences, but that usually has to be in the budget for the
year. On the other hand, since this is not a recognized organization as
such, it would probably be a harder sell for those people to get their
bosses to sign off on it.
