Folks,
We could easily get into a long discussion about where to have such an event, as everyone will want to have it in their place of residence, more 'n likely, because it will be on our own times and costs. It makes sense to determine where to have it, therefore, based on majority vote of THOSE WHO TRULY INTEND TO COME TO SUCH AN EVENT (and ONLY those who truly intend to attend). If we can somehow quickly agree that this is a fair/unbiased way to determine the site, I can take the responsibility of having people who would plan to come send me off-line e-mails containing the ONE city in which they would like the event to occur. I can tally up the responses, and post the results back to the list.
By the way, we also need to determine another very important point, that being WHEN this will occur. If we agree to the above, people can send me the ONE city in which they would like they would like the event to occur, as well as the ONE MONTH (notice I didn't say SPECIFIC DATES) in which they would like to see the event occur.
Sample e-mail to me:
Hi, Doug,
Desired City: Washington, DC
Desired Month: September 2001
Thanks,
Doug
Oh, and nothing against those residing someplace other than the continental United States, but realistically, I don't think having this somewhere else would work for most of us. European factions, Australian factions, etc. would probably be much more successful setting up their own Techwhirl meetings, if so desired.
Again, no offense meant. Trust me.......I'd love to plan a European/Australian/wherever vacation for later this year, attaching it to a first-ever Techwhirl conference. But, again.......not very realistic for most of us, no matter how much we would like for it to be.
Just my humble suggestion,
Doug (Doug -dot- Grossman -at- SAS -dot- com)
