The first definition of architect in the Oxford English Dictionary means "a
master builder" and viewed in an expansive sense - the term has been
generally applied to those people who build things, even if what gets built
is not a building.
Perhaps the more essential issue is meaning. What choices do writers use to
convey meaning to the individuals who will read or hear the piece? What
mechanisms tend to grab attention and hold it?
So much of this debate sounds like the old war between Grammarians and
Linguists:
G: That usage is not correct, it does not follow the rules.
L: Chill out, it's how people talk.
How the listening or reading audience communicates is the real issue and the
meaning of words evolving in the age of spiritual machines.
