We are in in a society that is fixated on credentialism. When it comes time
to choose between a program of lesser prestige or one of higher, the higher
the better. In many cases one's educational level places the individual in
consideration more so than experience. If you doubt that, notice what has
happened to the most experienced individuals in the work force in the last
decade.

All other things being equal, young people with the best educational
qualifications get the best jobs. In the brave new world of HR, it is widely
assumed that a prestigious education is somehow a substitute for experience.
In the everyday real world of work it does not turn out that way. That being
the case, put yourself at the head of the line.
