I deliberately cultivate the notion that I'm always open to
a better offer. I never refuse to talk to anybody, and I
always try to know what the job market is in my field and the
fields of the people I work with. I think I have a reputation
as a person who's pretty savvy about the job market, and my
employers know that if I'm not happy they can expect to see
me moving on. I present my own "job-hopping" as a positive. I
think that sometimes we have control of the spin on these
things but we just don't use the power.
