I am not know to be a defender of HR types, but I can see a legitimate
purpose in asking almost any question that may gauge your ability to
think on your feet and express your thoughts. After all, what good is
your knowledge if you are not an effective communicator. Part of being
an effective communicator is to be able to express to unanticipated
questions.
BTW I once answered that question by telling my potential manager that
my weakness was ambition and if hired I would try to get his job. I was
hired on the spot. YMMV
