re: I guess that most of us who have problems with 5-year plans are problem
solvers, not goal setters.
The 6/21/99 issue of Fortune magazine devoted most of the issue to the
notion "Why CEOs Fail," and the conclusion was that those failing were those
emphasizing goal setting over execution. A particularly interesting thing
was a quote from Lou Gerstner at the time he took over as CEO of IBM: "The
last thing IBM needs right now is a vision." You can look it up.
