Re: Summary: A/An
Well, I got conflicting opinions (no surprise there I guess!) Most people
said to use "an" if the acronym is pronounced "ess eye" (which, while I'm
sure some people read the acronym as "self-insured", most people would read
it as "ess eye"). I was actually quite surprised that some people wrote that
I should use "a" regardless of how it is pronounced because S is a
consonant.
However, since "an" is what I thought was correct, and that's what the
majority of the responses chose, I'll stick with that (now SQL is another
ball game!)
Ok, I'm late.
Remember that the a/an rule was established to assist the "speaking" of the language, not the writing of it. If the sound has a vowel starting it, then the an rules.
