The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
I confess to knowing little about Information Mapping
'til a few days ago, until Someone Upstairs mentioned
it as a topic for research. Having browsed around
on Dejanews and the archives of this list, it sounds
to me as if its nothing really more than basic
principles that most good tech writers probably apply
anyway (for example, don't use too many steps,
but break up into substeps if required).
I'm intrigued enough to find out more, however.
But the local Information Mapping approved
seminar costs IR#1,000 for 3 days, and I'm
not sure can I really justify that to my company.
Does anyone have experience of such seminars?
Did it change the way you write, or did you come
away thinking you just found out something you
already new? Is it a transferable skill (that is,
does it look good on a CV? Mercenary, I know,
but hey, there is a downturn and who knows what
might happen tomorrow).
Thoughts greatly appreciated,
P.

English is about as pure as a cribhouse whore. We don't just borrow words;
on occasion, English has pursued other languages down alleyways to beat them
