I haven't been in a hiring position in a while, but things I generally look
for are clean layout, easy access to information, easy identification of
information types (employment history titles and duties), and the info I'm
looking for. No one likes to read a resume in which they have to hunt for
the info they're looking for. Also, length is a tricky beast. Usually long
resumes are bad, but if they are formatted in an easy-to-read manner, the
extra pages aren't an issue.
Avoid flashy formatting, too many fonts, and make sure you spell check,
grammar check, and proofread your resume to death for errors. Nothing like a
tech writer with a poorly word-smithed resume. ;)
